Education —
Demi earned a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Denver, with a specialization in Addictions Counseling. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia.
In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, Demi is a National Certified Counselor and a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Demi is also a trained supervisor, per Colorado’s DORA qualifications.
Experience —
Demi has worked in the field since 2012, where she became passionate about helping people while working as an intern at a domestic violence shelter, alongside earning her Bachelor’s degree. While still in school, Demi volunteered at a private therapy practice outpatient facility, and upon graduating with her Bachelor’s degree, she started working full-time at a Methadone clinic for a few years. She then completed her Master’s level practicum at a charter high school, where she found her therapeutic passion of helping teenagers cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, and other life stressors. Demi completed her Master’s level internship at a private therapy practice facility, where she worked with clients presenting with a multitude of mental health concerns, ranging from anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, psychosis, and trauma. She has worked with individuals from all walks of life, and thoroughly enjoys learning from her clients.
Demi most enjoys working with Adolescents, Young Adults, and Adults.
Therapeutic Style —
Demi takes an eclectic approach in therapy, mostly drawing upon Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, and Solution-Focused treatment modalities to address each client’s unique concerns. Demi is an empathetic and compassionate therapist, who takes a great deal of time building the therapeutic relationship. She thoroughly enjoys building rapport with her clients through humor and laughter. She also believes in fostering a collaborative relationship with her clients, and creating therapeutic goals alongside the client. Demi enjoys having strengths-based sessions, in which she teaches her clients how to advocate for themselves and their needs. She believes that this allows clients to feel empowered and advocate for themselves and their individual needs, not just in the therapy room, but in their day-to-day lives as well.
